Lavastorm Data Acquisition Module

The value of any analytic process is directly related to the ability to quickly and accurately acquire the necessary source data – often from multiple systems and in many different formats. While reading data from relational databases is commonplace, it is the complex legacy and binary formats that frequently hold the most valuable and hardest to acquire data.

Lavastorm Data Acquisition module (LDA) is a configurable, high volume engine that enables the acquisition and processing of complex data formats, without the technical challenges and deployment risk of coding-based ETL (extract, transform and load) methods, or the cost of acquiring, learning and supporting separate ETL processes.

LDA can be quickly implemented through metadata and parameters to read a wide variety of structured, complex file formats such as ASN.1, COBOL, EDI and vendor-specific binary data sources. Both packaged format-specific nodes and a general purpose XML-configurable reader node enable organizations to streamline these common data acquisition challenges.

  • LDA is an optional module of the Lavastorm Analytics Platform (LAP), automatically federating those additional data without the need for new warehouses or pre-analytic data consolidation, and extending all of LAP’s powerful interactive analytics capabilities to LDA-sourced data
  • Packaged ASN.1 and COBOL node libraries accelerate and simplify the acquisition and processing of complex switch and mainframe data, and significantly reduce the time and cost of both implementing and maintaining the sourcing of this data
  • LDA nodes install directly into the existing LAP node libraries, simplifying usage through a common implementation and operational environment
  • As LDA nodes are configured for an organization’s specific data sources and devices, they become re-usable nodes within that organization’s library, speeding future deployment and automating re-instance node maintenance
  • As with all LAP capabilities, LDA-based data acquisition is available for both ad hoc analytics and persistent automated controls
